Frequently asked questions
Acupuncture can support a wide range of physical, emotional, and energetic concerns by helping the body return to its natural state of balance. Rooted in the principles of Chinese medicine, acupuncture works by gently regulating the flow of Qi (vital energy), improving circulation, calming the nervous system, and supporting the body’s innate healing intelligence.
In my practice, I work with people experiencing a variety of symptoms — often ones that are chronic, hard to define, or have not responded fully to conventional treatment. Acupuncture can help both with clearly diagnosed conditions and with more subtle states of imbalance.
Some of the concerns acupuncture may support include:
Emotional wellbeing: anxiety, low mood, burnout, emotional overwhelm, nervous system dysregulation
Sleep and rest: insomnia, light or disrupted sleep, difficulty switching off
Digestive issues: bloating, constipation, IBS, food sensitivities
Menstrual and hormonal health: irregular periods, PMS, painful periods, fertility support
Chronic or unexplained symptoms: fatigue, headaches, brain fog, autoimmune symptoms
Pain: back, neck, joint or muscular pain, migraines, menstrual pain
Autoimmune-related symptoms: fatigue, inflammation, joint pain, and immune dysregulation
Central Sensitivity Syndromes (CSS): such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome/ME, and related conditions marked by heightened pain sensitivity, fatigue, and nervous system dysregulation.
Trauma-related patterns: disconnection from the body, emotional holding, spiritual exhaustion
In addition to symptom relief, acupuncture often supports a deeper sense of reconnection — to the body, to clarity, and to one’s own energy. It can help us feel more grounded, clear, and present in our lives.
Because I combine acupuncture with energy work and deeper listening, my approach is especially supportive for those who are sensitive, self-aware, or navigating long-standing patterns — especially when healing has felt complex or incomplete.
Yes — acupuncture, especially when combined with energy medicine and, the the understanding of how trauma affects the physical body can be transformational.
In Chinese medicine, trauma often disrupts the flow of Qi and affects the organ systems on physical, emotional, and energetic levels. Acupuncture helps restore balance, regulate the nervous system, and restore flow in the body.
Most people find acupuncture to be calming and painless. The needles are very fine — often compared to a hair — and many clients feel a sense of relaxation or spaciousness once they’re in. Any sensation is usually brief and minimal.
We will often look to achieve what we call a Qi sensation, which equals to a dull ache, indicating the needle has reached the meridian and engaged its energy.
Each session begins with a consultation — a chance to talk about how you're feeling physically and emotionally, and to explore any symptoms or patterns that are present. From there, I’ll take your pulses, look at your tongue, observe diagnostic signs, and begin to build a treatment rooted in traditional Chinese medicine.
Once you're settled, the acupuncture begins. Very fine, sterile needles are placed at specific points along the body’s meridians to support balance, regulation, and healing. The experience is often deeply calming — many people feel a sense of deep relaxation or grounding within moments.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the tongue is a powerful diagnostic tool. Its colour, shape, coating, and texture offer insight into what’s happening inside the body — particularly in relation to the organ systems, circulation, and internal heat or dampness.
I may ask you to briefly show your tongue at the beginning of the session. It helps me understand where imbalances may be occurring, and allows me to tailor the treatment more precisely. It’s a simple, non-invasive way to access the body’s deeper patterns — and can be surprisingly revealing.
In Chinese medicine, the pulse is one of our most important diagnostic tools. By gently feeling the pulse at your wrist, I can gain insight into the quality, strength, and rhythm of your Qi — as well as how different organ systems are functioning.
There are actually six positions on each wrist, each corresponding to different internal systems. I’m not just feeling for your heart rate — I’m listening to the texture of the pulse.
This subtle reading helps guide your treatment in a precise and individualised way. Your pulse can often tell us things the body is expressing before symptoms appear — or confirm what your system is already trying to communicate.
