From insomnia to reconnection - an experience of Chinese medicine and inner change

Why do I love acupuncture and Acu-Healing? Because yes, it treats ailments and symptoms, but at the same time, it does something much more powerful... it helps us reconnect with ourselves.
I saw this on my own skin when, after experiencing some intensely difficult times across several aspects of my life - from family, to study, and my own relationship with myself—I developed a serious case of insomnia.
I was sent by my amazing therapist to another incredible doctor, healer, and acupuncturist. Within two weeks, the insomnia was resolved. And not only that, what had felt like insurmountable obstacles began to resolve.
Relationships that felt beyond repair began to heal.
I remember having a conversation with a dear friend at the time, who, after I disclosed certain details, responded with empathy: “It will take YEARS of therapy to untangle this!” When, after only a few weeks of seeing this doctor and telling my friend about the changes, she became outraged: “That’s impossible!”
It is hard to explain or understand how this works. And in many ways, I feel that’s the beauty of it all.
This was my first encounter with Chinese medicine - one that would change my life forever.
We learn that feeling insecure, feeling lost, feeling like we don't know why we are here, difficult relationships, a difficult past we can't seem to move beyond, an overactive mind, feelings of anxiety, and a sense that we do not have control over ourselves or our lives are things we must work through.
However, Chinese medicine understands that our physical, emotional, and spiritual lives are not separate. When we restore harmony to that inner system, healing often unfolds in ways that reach far beyond the original reason someone came for treatment.
Acupuncture taps into our inner "circuit"- the energy within us. From the perspective of
Chinese medicine, this energy not only governs our physical health but also influences our emotional and mental wellbeing. When that flow is restored, healing can extend far beyond symptoms.
It can transform how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to life itself.
How?
Although acupuncture often works in “mysterious” ways (as humans we are simply too far behind to fully understand it, and that’s okay 🙂), we can also see how one of its main effects is to help us become aware - aware of what is happening, what we are doing, what we are not getting. It also puts us in touch with those “gifts” and qualities that are latent within us: our courage, our knowing, our Self.
When Self joins Awareness, change happens in ways that might be called “miraculous.” The catch is, there are no miracles, aside from that of being human, and the beauty of what that means ❤️
